Many conspiracy theory researchers believe that Watkins or his son, Ron Watkins, are working with Q, know Q, or have assumed Q's identity. When 8chan was taken off the internet in August 2019 following three mass shootings, Q stopped posting; when it came back online in November, Q reappeared.

The next month, citing security concerns, Q moved to 8chan and only posted there from then on, eventually leading to an international movement. Sean Hannity has retweeted QAnon hashtags on his Twitter feed. On March 14, 2018, the initial group of Q followers on Reddit were banned over their promotion of the theory.

Q is thought to have started the group, posting the initial conspiracy theory and subsequent other posts, that followers call ‘Q Drops’. These are posted to 8chan whose original creator Frederik Brennan, who also features in the documentary, accuses the Watkins family of having links to Q.
