Queen Sindeok (Korean: 신덕왕후 강씨; 12 July 1356 – 15 September 1396), of the Goksan Kang clan, was a posthumous name bestowed to the second wife and queen consort of Yi Dan, King Taejo; the first monarch of the Korean Joseon Dynasty.

Queen Seondeok is known as a wise and kind monarch, making her one of the most prominent monarchs in Korean history. Titles[edit] In texts, Queen Seondeok is indicated not only as Seondeok yeowang ( 선덕여왕 ), but also as Seondeok wang ( 선덕왕 ), Seondeok yeodaewang ( 선덕여대왕) and Seongjohwanggo ( 성조황고 ). [8]

Seondeok (Sŏndŏk) reigned as Queen of Silla, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, from 632 to 647. She was Silla's twenty-seventh ruler, and the first of three queens to rule Silla. She reigned near the end of the Three Kingdoms period, when there was much fighting between Silla, Baekje and Goguryeo, and also with the Tang Chinese.

Besides the name Seondeok, she was also called Sung-Jo Hwang-Go which means "sacred and dedicated queen". Queen Seondeok was an intelligent and capable ruler who established the foundation of Silla's unity of Korea peninsula. She ruled her kingdom wisely and improved her people’s life.
