Raine's School Foundation. (Registered Charity number 312706) Henry Raine was a wealthy brewer from Wapping; he was a pious Churchman, highly respected in the community. In 1719, Henry Raine founded Raine's Foundation School to provide an education for local poor children (50 boys and 50 girls).

With the legacy of Henry Raine foremost in our minds, the current Trustees intend to continue to support children and the local community. Education is our main focus, but in difficult times, the Trust recognises the dilemma of the most disadvantaged in the East End and aspires to help young people to survive and achieve.

Celebrating 300 years. Raine's celebrated its Tercentenary on 8th May 2019 at St Paul's Cathedral. An evensong service to celebrate our Foundation was very well attended by current and past students and teachers. It was a bittersweet moment as a consultation by LBTH and LDBS had been started to close Raine's Foundation School.

Nov 5, 2019 · The death knell has been sounded for the East End’s oldest school after 300 years with the Mayor of Tower Hamlets issuing a statutory notice to shut down Raine’s Foundation.
