It’s not a huge park, but it’s worth the stop if you are driving through the area. It offers stunning tall pillars of red rocks that will make you feel small.
Red Rock Canyon State Park. Walk among wrinkled sandstone cliffs colored red and rust, then be humbled—in the best possible way—by the nightly star show. At the edge of the El Paso Range, about 80 miles east of Bakersfield, eroded badlands rise up from the sandy soil, their whimsical shapes sculpted by eons of wind and water.
About. Red Rock Canyon State Park is in California along Highway 14 about 20 miles north of Mojave. This park offers views of stunning red cliffs and rock formations. Ricardo Campground is the only campground in the park and is first come first serve. There are many hiking trails and scenic areas. Suggest edits to improve what we show.

Situated where the El Paso and Sierra Nevada Mountains collide, this park showcases some of the most colorful and unique red rock formations in the southwest. The geology is stunning!
Details. Cost: $6 per vehicle. Camping info. Location: 37749 Abbott Dr, Cantil, CA 93519. Information from my visit in 2017. Getting There. I am sure one of the main reasons the park is not that busy is because it is pretty out of the way. At about 120 miles from Los Angeles, it is not one of those parks you just stumble on.
Contact. Tips. Getting There. The Red Cliffs Trail at Red Rock Canyon State Park travels past reddish cliffs comprising sandstone, mudstone, and some volcanic rocks. Evidence of slumping, or possibly faulting, is seen in this cliff formation, which makes it an excellent place to see geology in action.
