- Fitness Test
- Be a United States citizen by birth or naturalization or a permanent resident alien.
- Have a minimum general technical (GT) score of 95 with a skilled-technical score of 95. (waiver authorized for GT and ST Score below 90).
- Be at least 21 years old, but not more than 39 years old at time of selection (waiver authorized to age 45).
- Be a sergeant (SGT), SSG, or SFC. At time of selection, have no less than 4 years time in service and no more than 9 years time in service if a SGT, no more than 15 years time in service if a SSG, or no more than 16 years time in service if a SFC (waiver authorized).

U.S. citizens and some non-citizens can join the military. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must: 1. Have a U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) 2. Speak, read, and write English fluently You cannot join the military to enter the U.S. or to get a visa.
Each branch of the military has age limits to enlist in active duty: 1. Air Force: 17 - 39 2. Army: 17 - 35 3. Coast Guard: 17 - 31 4. Marine Corps: 17 - 28 5. Navy: 17 - 39 6. Space Force: 17 - 39 The age limits are different if you join as an officer or join the Guard or Reserve.

You must have a high school or general equivalency diploma (GED) to enlist in the military. There are fewer spots for GED holders to enter the military. If you have a GED, you will have a better chance of joining if you have: 1. Earned college credits 2. Scored higher on the ASVAB You must have a degree from a four-year college to join as an officer.
