Richard Briers CBE (14 January 1934 – 17 February 2013) was an English actor, appearing as Stephen Wentworth in the episode Death's Shadow of the popular British crime drama Midsomer Murders. His fifty-year career encompassed television, stage, film and radio. He was diagnosed with emphysema in 2007.

Barnaby and Troyinvestigate the murder of a man in Badger's Drift beheaded. There are many possible suspects, including villagers who oppose the plan to redevelop a major property, Tye House, into a golf course and residential housing estate.
Dream of 30 years ago: A school bell is ringing. Children run out to the playground. Five boys slip away through a gate. Boys are shown throwing rocks at the windows of the school.
