There were a number of nods to Perry's pre-Journey band Alien Project on this album—in fact, that band was originally going to be called Street Talk. In the liner notes, Perry dedicates the album to Richard Michaels (the bassist for Alien Project). Also, drummer Craig Krampf was a member of Alien Project later in the 1970s.

Jan 15, 2019 · It was with Perry’s subsequent band, Alien Project, that he recorded a demo tape that caught the ear of Columbia Records executive Don Ellis. The band broke up in the summer of 1977 after bassist Richard Michaels was killed in a road accident.

Jan 23, 2014 · Steve was in a band called Alien Project in the mid-70s. The bass player, Richard Michaels, was killed in a car accident just before they were signed by Colombia. As Steve thought his elusive big break was never going to happen, the Alien Project demo landed on Journey manager Herbie Herbert’s desk. The rest, as they say, is history.
Craig Krampft with the help of Steve in 1977 formed a group called Alien Project. It was not long when Chrysalis and Columbia came knocking and wanted to sign the group to their label. Tragically, on July 4th 1977 on the eve of Alien Project’s recording contract signing, their bassist, Richard Michaels, died in a car accident.
