River of No Return is a 1954 American Western film directed by Otto Preminger and starring Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe. The screenplay by Frank Fenton is based on a story by Louis Lantz, who borrowed his premise from the 1948 Italian film Bicycle Thieves.

Jul 8, 2022 · Review: A thoroughly entertaining film that gets its appeal from its star power rather than a complex plot or deep cast, though that treacherous trek down the River of No Return certainly helps, too. Mitchum plays the strong, silent type. He’s seemingly unimpressed with Kay Weston’s obvious charms.

Screenwriter Frank Fenton claims that he drew inspiration from Vittorio De Sica’s Bicycle Thieves when putting this formulaic Western together.
