Roy Thomas (1949–2004) was one of the most influential 20th-century Anishinaabe painters in Canada, and was famous for paintings of colourful totemic animals. Like Norval Morrisseau, he became well known when Indigenous art gained mainstream popularity in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Roy Thomas was a self-taught Ojibway artist who painted in the Woodland style for 35 years. He used symbolism and imagery inspired by the pictographs and visions of his Elders to depict his culture and traditions. His paintings are influenced by Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig and Carl Ray, and are represented in major collections around the world.
