Mar 29, 2022 · A pastoral sabbatical makes good practical sense, and even smaller churches would do well to make it a priority to have their pastor take some time off for spiritual renewal, undisturbed study, and long-term planning.
A sufficient sabbatical time of three months or more allows time to establish new healthy habits and behaviors for the leader and to plant them into daily lives. Some of our most important experiences were in the closing weeks.

Jul 8, 2020 · A sabbatical allows a pastor to be a gospel recipient – to hear the Word of God preached to him without being responsible for the rest of the service. It allows for family renewal time. Even the strongest ministry families I know need intentional time alone to reinvest in each other.
It is a day consecrated to God, when God’s people cease to do ordinary labor, but instead rest, worship, and enjoy God’s creation. In the last several years, many churches have become convinced of the importance and benefit of granting periodic sabbatical leave to ministers.
