On 20 May, Czechoslovak 4th Brigade positioned north of Salgótarján crossed the Ipoly between Nógrádszakál and Ipolygalsa (Holiša). Hungarian forces fell back to defenses around Salgótarján. 46th Regiment was held down around Nádújfalu, mopping up the Czechoslovaks fleeing from Kisterenye.
