    The following requirements must be met to be eligible to apply: 1. Residency Must be a California residentor be eligible for in-state tuition. 2. Minimum Grade Point Average Prerequisite GPA must be 3.0 or higher. 3. Score 78 or higher on the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) within three attempts 4. Prerequisite Coursework All five prerequisite courses must be completed by the time of supplemental application submission. *Science courses must be taken within the last seven years. 1. A minimum grade of C is required in all prerequisite courses. A grade of C- is not acceptable. 2. Please consult Assist to determine comparable or articulated coursework taken at California community colleges or CSUs. If the course in question was taken at institutions other than California community colleges, please go here. 3. Repeating a prerequisite course is acceptable and applicants can choose the course with the higher grade to fulfill the prerequisite on NursingCAS application.

    These documents are optional, but highly recommended. Please note that volunteer experience will get points only if it's more than 120 hours. In addition, Letter of verification needs to be on letterhead from organization(s): 1. Veteran or active duty military status. 2.     Interview is part of mandatory admission process. Selected qualified students will be invited and are required to attend the interview on the date and time scheduled by School of Nursing. Back to Top

    While not required for admission, prospective students should be aware that the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) requires students to have completed a minimum of 16 semester units comprising natural sciences, behavioral, and social sciences. To complement the anatomy, physiology, and microbiology prerequisites, students should plan to complete a General Psychology or Developmental Psychology course prior to taking NURS 328 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Theory and Practicum and any additional behavioral or social science course, as needed to fulfill the BRN's requirement. Note:These courses may also satisfy GE requirements.

    Second Year Composition ENG 214 or an equivalent community college course as listed on Assistis required prior to enrolling in the NURS 312GW during semester one of the program.

    Applicants for credit by examination will be held to all existing BSN program requirements, including admission requirements, prerequisite courses, supporting courses, courses in the major, and graduation requirements.     The conceptual framework that provides the academic foundation for the nursing curriculum at the SF State School of Nursing is based on the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies. These concepts encompass patient-centered care, teamwork, and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. This conceptual framework is based on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) required to ensure quality care and the safety of clients and families in local and global communities in a variety of healthcare systems.

    The undergraduate program has been approved by the Board of Registered Nursing since 1956 and was accredited by the National League for Nursing/National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission from 1961 to 2003. In addition, the school also received accreditation by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education since 2003.

    The Bachelor of Science degreeprepares students for entry-level positions in professional nursing practice. Graduates are prepared to take a national licensure examination (NCLEX) to become registered nurses and for positions in maternity, pediatrics, medical-surgical nursing, gerontology, psychiatric/mental health, community health, long-term care, and home-care. In addition, they are eligible for public health nursing certification in California upon licensure as a registered nurse. For a person with an Associate Degree in Nursing, the Bachelor of Science (ADN-BSN) degree builds upon previous nursing education and experience for professional role development.     A 30 unit LVN option is available on a space-available basis. Students must contact the School of Nursing prior to admission and registration for advising about course placement, the challenge exam process, and space availability. Upon completion of the program, the LVN will not receive a degreebut will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
