Murphy, the new building now had a capacity of 400 and opened on October 17, 1926. Over the following years, Waverly would become a nearly “self-contained” community.

It housed 400 patients and was one of the largest facilities of its kind. Waverly served the community through decades of the worse TB outbreak in the country.
