The Santa Barbara Zoo is located on 30 acres (12 ha) near the ocean in Santa Barbara, California. It was built on the site of what was known as the Child Estate. It has more than 500 animals in numerous exhibits, including capybara and California condors, and was known for having had a giraffe with a crooked neck.
The Santa Barbara Zoo is home to 146 species of mammals, reptiles, birds and insects. More than 500 animals are exhibited in open, naturalistic habitats. If you can’t visit us in person, you can find out more about some of our animals here, or check out our live webcams.
General Admission Ticket. The Santa Barbara Zoo is open daily 9:30 AM – 5 PM, and 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas. The Zoo closes early for some special events. Please note: some animals (such as the lions, gorillas, and otters) have early bedtimes and will not be out after 4:30 PM.
