5 Mins Read. The Secretariat Building stands on Raisina Hill in New Delhi, looking from the hilltop over the surrounding areas; it was built in the 1910s by Architect Herbert Baker. The structure was built to help accommodate the shift of India’s capital from Calcutta to Delhi by providing functioning office spaces.
Delhi Legislative Assembly is the legislative arm of the Government of Delhi. At present, it consists of 70 members, directly elected from 70 constituencies. The tenure of the Legislative Assembly is five years unless dissolved sooner. The seat of assembly is the Old Secretariat building, which is also the seat of the Government of Delhi .

Overall the structure is distinctly different from other contemporary British Colonial symbols, although other New Delhi buildings, such as the Secretariat Building, New Delhi, mainly by Herbert Baker, have similarities e.g. both are built with cream and red Dholpur sandstone.
