- Politely Ask Parents Not to Hover if the Teen Needs Space. Senior portraits (like childhood portraits) should always have a parent attend the session, being that they are still minors in the eyes of the law.
- Include Props to Bring Out the Teen’s Personality. Senior sessions are the perfect portrait session where you can ask the teen to include some props to showcase more of their personality.
- Play Music for a Relaxing Photo Shoot. Music is a big part of a teen’s life and can speak more to what their personality is than anything else. During the pre-consultation, ask the teen who their favorite artist is at the moment.
- Include Many Outfit Changes for a Variety of Photos. Seniors give a lot of thought to their style with photo shoots. Ask the teen to bring at least three different outfit changes so that the final images will have more variety.
- SPORTS JERSEY AND EQUIPMENT. This is a classic prop and one of my favorites. You can use pretty much any type of sports equipment like: baseball bats, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and anything else you want to bring along that will make your senior portrait look more authentic.
- MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. Whether you’re into rock or classical, a piano is a must for any senior who wants to look hip on their yearbook page. And yes, some schools may not allow it, but if you want to be remembered as The Dude with a piano in his photos, it’s worth trying.
- Pets. If you want to show off your four-legged best friend, bring him or her along. Animals are naturally photogenic, and will provide a lovely touch of whimsy to your session.
- Accessories: Shoes, Hats, Bags & Belts. Accessories are a great way to show your personality in pictures. Even if you feel like a simple sundress with some sandals is all you need, try adding accessories like hats or scarves to change up your style!
- Senior Picture Ideas in a Park or Garden. One of the most versatile senior portrait ideas is going to a park or garden. You can find beautiful backgrounds to take selfies or pictures with friends.
