Only 235 copies of the First Folio are known to survive—one in the holdings at Chicago’s Newberry Library. Unlocking Shakespeare’s text using the clues in the First Folio has been at the core of Artistic Director Barbara Gaines’ approach to directing, and the method upon which the Theater’s reputation for clarity of language emerged.
