  7. Nov 27, 2020 · This reef is submerged with just 1-metre of rock visible at high tide making it almost impossible to locate. The first lighthouse on Eddystone was built in 1698 but was destroyed in the ‘Great Storm” in 1703. A second light was built in 1708, but this was destroyed by a fire in 1755 when the lantern caught alight.
