In 2024, Smeaton's Tower will be open: • 10am-5pm, Tuesday-Sunday from Saturday 30 March-Sunday 29 September • 10am-5pm, 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27 October and 29 October-3 November • Last entries are at 4.30pm . Occasional closures. Smeaton's Tower is occasionally closed for special events and essential maintenance.

This reef is submerged with just 1-metre of rock visible at high tide making it almost impossible to locate. The first lighthouse on Eddystone was built in 1698 but was destroyed in the ‘Great Storm” in 1703.
