St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral is a historic church established by the Greek community of Tarpon Springs that was drawn to the area by sponge diving in the early 19th century. The first wood frame church was built in 1907 but it became too small for the community. Construction of a new cathedral began in the early 1940's.
