It was built about the 14th century as a rectangular Gothic tower of "wild stone", [2] part of the city fortifications against Tatar attack.

Known by the name Brama Florianska in Polish, St. Florian’s Gate is a Gothic tower in Krakow’s Old Town district. It was a part of the city’s defense and one of many fortifications built to ward off attacks by invaders.

It was built around 1300, although the top is a later addition. The adjoining walls, together with two towers, have also been left standing.
