He is the Chair of the Graduate Art program at ArtCenter College of Design, Pasadena, California. Douglas was one of the earliest artists to be represented by David Zwirner, where he had his first American solo exhibition in 1993.

For more than three decades, Stan Douglas has used his art to reconstruct and reimagine what he calls “ruptures.” Through works of film, photography, theatre and various other media, he studies pivotal moments in history – times brimming with social, cultural and political possibility – whose effects still reverberate today.
Stan Douglas (born October 11, 1960) is an artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Douglas' film and video installations, photography and work in television frequently touch on the history of literature, cinema and music, while examining the "failed utopia" of modernism and obsolete technologies.
