Stephen Hall L. Meek (July 4, 1807 – January 8, 1889) was a fur trapper and guide in the American west, most notably a guide on a large wagon train that used a trail known as the Meek Cutoff. A native of Virginia, both he and his younger brother Joseph Meek would spend their lives as trappers west of the Rocky Mountains .

Dec 6, 2021 · Stephen Meek was a mountain man and wagon train guide who led over a thousand immigrants across the untested Oregon desert in 1845. He was accused of leading them to their deaths by dehydration, disease, and Indian attacks. He may have been a con artist who was looking for gold or the British. He ended up in Northern California and died there in 1889.
