Mar 19, 2023 · Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing is an attempt to do something different with that novel. Writer/director Steve Lawson ( Ripper Untold, The Haunting of Alcatraz) doesn’t just focus on the supporting cast, he’s taken Dracula right out of his own story. And that’s a pretty radical step to take, one that I don’t think has been done before.
Basically, "Bram Stoker's Van Helsing" is a Dracula movie without Dracula! Otherwise, this unrated film does take place in Victorian England. "Bram Stoker's Van Helsing" begins outside London, at Hillingham House, one of Arthur Holmwood's many properties. Lucy has chosen Holmwood as her fiancé over Dr. John Seward.
