The Kaserne property is open to the public as the mine is still open to visitors. The property is abandoned and is in pretty rough shape since the military moved out, but the buildings are still there. I was just on the Kaserne today.
On 4 March 1955 the Battalion moved to Strassburg Kaserne, Idar Oberstein, Germany and there had three Quartermaster Companies attached to it. The mission of the Battalion was the support of Nahbollenbach Quartermaster Depot, Nahbollenbach, Germany.
I commanded 7th CEC at Idar-Oberstein from summer of 1974 to summer of 1976. Our barracks were at Strassburg Kaserne with equipment stored at both Nahbollenbach Depot and Winterhauch Storage Site. We had a very busy time in many respects.

The 108th MI Battalion was formed March 16, 1981, from the 8th Military Intelligence Company and the 415th Army Security Agency Company. It was formally activated Sept. 16, 1981, at the Strassburg Kaserne, Idar-Oberstein and moved to its present location in Wildflecken in May 1983. This forward deployment led to the nickname, "The Point Battalion".
