Taya's debut YouTube video got 300k. Which is actually very good and AEW is likely very happy with that. But obviously there is a huge difference between 2.5 million and 3000k. Taya has 500k on Instagram (most of that is probably from AAA), never made the WWE main roster and had a very quick cup of coffee in NXT.
Honestly AEW fans can be very cliquish. Not saying that is good or bad. Based on that it is much easier to debut a wrestler known from another company as a heel. Taya almost felt like the heel against Jade cause AEW fans know Jade and they don't know Taya. With a heel you don't have to do a ton of backstory and just let them be heels.
