Make sure you provide students and their parents with a clear set of guidelines to help them understand your expectations.
- Know Your Student – Learn Their Interests. When your presentation isn’t interesting to the kids, they will lose concentration quickly. You should get to know any students you plan to tutor online before you begin teaching.
- Set Ground Rules for Online class routine. Managing an online classroom is easier than managing a physical one. Students who whisper, pass notes, or run around will unlikely interrupt you during class.
- Speak Slowly. With a webcam connection, you have difficulty engaging with your students. You’ll have more success on camera if you’re a bit larger than life.
- Smile. Every interaction between an online student and the tutor should be positive, regardless of the distance. Also, remember to be compassionate toward families.
