The Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act is a United States law (codified at 36 U.S.C. Sec. 220501 et seq. of the United States Code) that charters and grants monopoly status to the United States Olympic Committee, and specifies requirements for its member national governing bodies for individual sports .

Oct 30, 2020 · (a) Short Title.—This chapter may be cited as the "Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act". (b) Definitions .—For purposes of this chapter— (1) "amateur athlete" means an athlete who meets the eligibility standards established by the national governing body or paralympic sports organization for the sport in which the athlete competes.
This chapter establishes the eligibility standards, conduct rules, and disciplinary procedures for amateur athletes and organizations in the United States. It also provides for the creation of a Center for SafeSport and a Athletes' Advisory Council to protect and support amateur athletes and address issues of child abuse, retaliation, and sanctioning.
In 1978, the passage of The Amateur Sports Act (now The Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act – revised in 1998) as federal law appointed the USOPC as the coordinating body for all Olympic-related athletic activity in the United States.
To amend the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act to provide for congres-sional oversight of the board of directors of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and to protect amateur athletes from emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, and for other purposes.
