Terri M Augello (born May 8, 1950), known by her stage name Terria Joseph, was an Italian-American paralegal and part-time actress, and is the mother of Alicia Keys. She was married to the former flight attendant, Craig Cook, before they separated in 1983. She raised Keys by herself in Hell's Kitchen, New York.

Keys has told People, "My mother and grandmother inspired me and are the biggest mentors that I have in my life. They are very strong women and big supporters of whatever I do. I would have been a whole different way without them."

Terri Augello was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Toledo, Ohio, when she was six years old. She is of Italian, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. After attending one year at the University of Toledo, she moved to New York City to attend NYU's School of the Arts and graduated in 1971. She has since performed on stage, in independent films, and television projects in the New York area.

She moved into the Manhattan Plaza in December of 1978. When she found out she was pregnant, she considered having an abortion. When she informed Alicia's father she was expecting, she chose to keep her baby. Alicia Augello Cook was born on January 25, 1981. After Craig left when Alicia was just two years old, they continued to live in the one-room apartment. Raising her daughter in the building, Joseph explained to a source, "It made it affordable. It was close to my jobs and auditions. It had an outstanding pre-school called Manhattan Children's Center. Our long time babysitter also lived on the same floor so every thing was convenient." Joseph often worked three jobs to provide for her daughter. When Cook made promises to Joseph of becoming a family, around the time Keys was six, he chose to return to his ex-girlfriend instead.
