Are the han tu 承天 ("inheritance from the heavens"?)? Badagnani 02:15, 19 July 2007 (UTC) It seems to be 承天順化省 in traditional Chinese, and probably also in han tu. Not sure what 順 means. Badagnani 18:35, 31 August 2007 (UTC) 1. Some speculated that the name "Huế" originated from the local pronunciation of "Thuận Hóa", the original official name of the city, while others dispute that speculation. Note that the Hue accent is among the hardest to understand among all Vietnamese dialects, especially for people from the other regions. I once was at Incheon International Airport waiting for a connecting flight to SGN, where I overheard people conversing in some Asian language. It was half an hour later when I realized that they were actually speaking Vietnamese with a Hue accent. DHN 22:01, 31 August 2007 (UTC) The Nom Foundation gives 承天順化市. It should be described what this province was called and how it was divided in past eras (including the colonial era and the South Vietnamese regime). Badagnani 18:19, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Why is it named "Thừa Thiên–Huế"? What is the "Thừa Thiên" part? I assume that's the rest of the province outside of Huế? Badagnani 18:32, 31 August 2007 (UTC) 1. Prior to 1975, the province was known as "Thừa Thiên". I predict that within 20 years the city will become a centrally-controlled city and the province will revert back to its old name. Wikipedians in or visiting Vietnam: we need photos of this province, particularly places that are not in Huế itself. Badagnani 18:48, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
The French article seems to say that in addition to the Perfume River, the province has three others: the Bồ, Ong Lau, and Truoi. Is this accurate? None of these three seems to have an article of its own. Badagnani 22:09, 2 September 2007 (UTC) The Villegas article mentions these rivers and has a map showing them flowing into the estuary or lagoon of the Perfume River. It is a master's degree thesis, but I think a good source - at least for this sort of non-controversial statement. I added the url so anyone can check it out now. I read this article on the new species "boom" in the province. Should this be mentioned in the Geography section of the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steveprutz (talk • contribs) 13:07, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
