Critic Reviews for The Cosmopolitans All Critics (1) | Fresh (1) There's culture-clash comedy of manners, amiable and opinionated youth, and some very fun dialogue.

User Reviews. The biggest reason to recommend The Cosmopolitans is that it's unlike any other comedy pilot out there. You won't be blown away by its plotting, nor will you find loads of straightforward, sitcom-style gags here. But it's the tone, the rhythm of it that's so distinctive.

"Cosmopolis" is a flawlessly directed film about enigmatic people who speak in morose epigrams about vague universal principles they show no sign of understanding. Its characters are bloodless, their speech monotone. If there are people like this, I hope David Cronenberg 's film is as close as I ever get to them.
Thirty some odd minutes is not enough time to make a definitive decision about a pilot film. We are introduced to the characters and the main plot. In this pilot , 'The Cosmopolitans' are in Paris. I assume some of them work, but have no idea. Right now they are all about complainng about 'significant' others.
Apart from such literary considerations, however, "The Cosmopolitans" is, to paraphrase the late movie critic Judith Crist, a scrumptious novel-novel. Readers may be lulled by the somewhat leisurely ascent in Schulman's "Act One," only to find the roller coaster drop at the beginning of "Act Two" all the more thrilling.
The film has received very favorable print reviews, and was variously described as "charming," "wry", "touching", and "hilarious" by Variety, Newsday, Time Out New York, and The Southeast Asian. The Boston Phoenix noted the film's "superb performances".
