May 31, 2017 · In this article, we are going to look at what the Bible teaches about the Godhead – what it means and whether there are three persons of God or just one. The Meaning of “Godhead” The term “Godhead” is used three times in the Bible:
- One God, Three Persons. The doctrine of the Trinity means that there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Is the Trinity Contradictory? This leads us to investigate more closely a very helpful definition of the Trinity which I mentioned earlier: God is one in essence, but three in Person.
- Essence and Person. Essence. What does essence mean? As I said earlier, it means the same thing as being. God’s essence is his being. To be even more precise, essence is what you are.
- Trinitarian Illustrations? There are many illustrations which have been offered to help us understand the Trinity. While there are some illustrations which are helpful, we should recognize that no illustration is perfect.
