The Hitcher is a 1986 American thriller film [2] directed by Robert Harmon and written by Eric Red. It stars Rutger Hauer as the title character, a murderous hitch-hiker who stalks a young motorist ( C. Thomas Howell) across the highways of West Texas. Jeffrey DeMunn and Jennifer Jason Leigh appear in supporting roles.
Two friends on a fishing trip pick up a stranded motorist who turns out to be a psychopathic escaped convict. This sociopath has already murdered other good Samaritans in his efforts to evade authorities.
