The trio encounters a large, talking tree who offers to send them home if they can retrieve a stolen branch of hers that has been turned in to a dangerous weapon called the Ishibo. While attempting to retrieve it, they also encounter another trio of teens; each with their own superpowers who compete with them for possession of the Ishibo.

The Ishibo is a magical staff formed from the severed branch of the Ironwood Tree. It is a highly desired and sought-after item in the first season of The Hollow.
When Adam and his friends first meet the Ironwood Tree, she promises them that she will help them get home if they find the Ishibo and return it to her.
The Ishibo is a long big brown staff of ironwood. It glows purple when in use.
In "The Lighthouse," the Tree explains how she lost the Ishibo in the first place. Akuma and his monks ambushed her while she was asleep and tied her down. They summoned lightning to sever the branch and form the Ishibo. He took it away with him to his temple to keep as his most prized weapon. She gives Adam, Mira, and Kai the task of retrieving it from him and returning it to her. They go to the Akki Temple where the monks trap them in a cage.
In "Ishibo," Adam faces Katsuro in combat to win the Ishibo in the Akki Island Duels. After defeating Katsuro, he duels Akuma and wins, only for the Ishibo to be promptly stolen by Reeve and Skeet. During the duel, Akuma injures Adam's arm with the Ishibo, but Mira later heals it with medicine from the laboratory.
In "Ice," Reeve uses the Ishibo to attack Adam, leaving him comatose in a state of hypothermia.
Adam recovers the Ishibo from Reeve at the end of "Cocoon" during the Battle for the Ishibo and returns it to the Ironwood Tree in "Colrath." The tree opens a gateway to The Castle and willingly gives the Ishibo back to Adam so that he may use it to fight Colrath in the Final Boss Battle. During this battle, Adam uses the Ishibo tear a hole in Colrath's wing, sending the dragon flying into the glitch wall to disintegrate.
