A man is sitting on a horse with a rope around his neck: he seems to be in pain. Three women are insane and sometimes scream and fight one another. One of them tries to assault and bite other people. Their behaviour is unpredictable and at times wild. Madness is a strong presence during the entire movie.
The Homesman competed for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and got a North American limited release on November 14, 2014, by Roadside Attractions. The Homesman has received mostly positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rating average of 7.1/10.
