Jan 1, 1998 · Erwin E. Smith (1884-1947) always wanted to be a cowboy and an artist. As a teenager he worked on various Texas and New Mexico ranches during the summer and soon turned to photography as a way a to preserve the open range cowboy life that already was fading away.
