I watched the original in 1996 and absolutely loved it. The BBC production was actually better than the book, (a first for me). I thought it would be repeated or offered on VHS/DVD and searched for it for years. So I was ecstatic when I saw that it's being offered on Amazon Prime. But it's had a full hour cut from it, and it's just not the same.

The vivid, lush descriptions of India from the top and bottom, are enthralling, as Una is determined to follow both propriety and passion, even to bathing in the Ganges. Everyone is exposed in the end, and brought into more adult and honest relationships. The Peacock Spring is wonderful, tense, romantic adventure.
