Mar 30, 2017 · Though Elmes had intended on shooting the comparison with test patterns, Lynch convinced him to make a short film, twice, once for each brand of stock. The result was The Amputee (1974), which Lynch wrote over the course of a single night and which marked his first fully live action short subject.
The first movie he ever made, Six Men Getting Sick (1967), is a one-minute animation of six grotesque figures in agony, a project that earned him first prize at the academy’s annual end-of-year exhibit. Lynch’s other early films continue to showcase his unique surreal and subversive storytelling style.
