The Thorn Birds is a 1977 best-selling novel by the Australian author Colleen McCullough. Set primarily on Drogheda – a fictional sheep station in the Australian Outback named after Drogheda, Ireland – the story focuses on the Cleary family and spans the years 1915 to 1969.
I watched The Thorn Birds a long time ago, and remembered it fondly. I can find a lot of faults with it today, but it holds up well. The biggest fault is that there is not a lot of chemistry between Meggie and Ralph, certainly not for the once in a lifetime relationship that is central to the plot.
