I've read four different reviews for this film and each one gave a different description of the plot. What is certain the film is about a woman (Mia May) who runs away from her abusive husband. She ends up in some mountain era where she hides out only to run into what appears to be her husband's twin brother.

The Wandering Image (German: Das wandernde Bild) is a 1920 German silent drama film directed by Fritz Lang and starring Mia May, Hans Marr and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. It is also known by the alternative titles of The Wandering Picture and The Wandering Shadow (USA title).
The Wandering Image (1920) - Since its initial release, much of the original film has been lost or destroyed. The most complete surviving version, which was discovered in Brazil in the mid-1980s, contains just under 70% of the footage from the original film.
