Powered by JustWatch. "The Warriors" is a real peculiarity, a movie about street gang warfare, written and directed as an exercise in mannerism. There's hardly a moment when we believe that the movie's gangs are real or that their members are real people or that they inhabit a real city.
The Warriors surprisingly has high scores on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and Letterboxd despite getting bad reviews when it was released and only doing okay in the box office. It was also a very controversial movie when it came out. It actually caused fights in the theater and some people even died as a result.
Even with complaints I have, The Warriors is a badass movie. A cult classic with a killer soundtrack and an amazing video game that acts as a prequel and retelling of the movie (most of the cast are in it!).

This 1979 genre-bender from Walter Hill came along at the same time as Mad Max and outright predates the post-apocalyptic cycle of the 1980s. And yet it doesn't seem to enjoy the same cultural cache as some of its spiritual brethren.
