Dec 13, 1998 · Dr. Theodora Mead Abel, a psychologist who brought an anthropologist's view to her study of the Indians of New Mexico, died Dec. 2 at her home in Forestburgh, N.Y. She was 99.
Abel received his M.A. degree in 1925 and his Ph.D. degree in 1929 from Columbia University. He began his career as an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1925, moving to Columbia University in New York as an associate professor of sociology from 1929 to 1950.

Biography. Theodora Mead Abel was born September 9, 1899 in Newport, Rhode Island to Robert Mead, Jr. and Elsie Cleveland Mead. An only child, Abel travelled frequently with her affluent parents. While most of her early education took place at the Chapin School in New York City, she also attended school overseas during some of the family's travels.
