Early life. Thomas Mack Lauderdale was born in 1970 in Oakland, California, and adopted by Kerby Roy and Linda Sue, née Mikesell. In 1972, the family moved to Indiana, where his father was pastor at Eel River Church of the Brethren. After church services, Lauderdale usually went to the piano, and tried to replicate the hymns he heard.
Nov 1, 2013 · Along with a cadre of siblings he likens to “Josephine Baker’s Rainbow Tribe,” Lauderdale, who describes his ethnicity as “mystery Asian,” was adopted by a Church of the Brethren minister. He eventually found photographs of the Portland mission in a library 30 minutes from his childhood home in Indiana.
Biography. In 1994 in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics, with the intention of eventually running for office. Like other eager politicians-in-training, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun… but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming, lackluster, loud and un-neighborly.
In addition to his work with Pink Martini, in 2017 Lauderdale released Love for Sale, an album of standards featuring singer/civil rights leader Kathleen Saadat, and in 2019 he released Hotel Amour, a collaboration with crowd-surfing post-modern diva Meow Meow. He is currently working on an album with the surf band Satan’s Pilgrims.
