While working on Blade Runner, director Ridley Scott contacted makeup effects artist Rob Bottin about creating a special effect for the film. Whatever the effect may have been, the entire concept was scrapped soon after. Scott still wanted to work with Bottin, so he told him about his next project, Legend. Bottin agreed to do the movie, so he and S...

Initially, the two artists discussed creating the character of Darkness as an animatronic Griffin. Thankfully, a massive eagle-like beak saying “How like you my gifts?” just didn’t seem to sit well. 4. Oct 4, 2023 · Another aspect of Legend that even the biggest detractors praised was Tim Curry's performance as the Lord of Darkness. Despite only appearing in the last 20 minutes and heavily covered with makeup and prosthetics, Curry received much acclaim for truly embodying this evil, sadistic character and has been cited by many as the best part of the movie.

  5. Apr 19, 2024 · Equally iconic among fantasy buffs is Curry’s appearance as the villain the Lord of Darkness—or simply Darkness—in Ridley Scott’s Legend (1985). Curry’s iconic voice is distorted to a horrific and impressive degree, but his makeup and costuming is the most major triumph here.
