1974. Timanfaya National Park ( Spanish: Parque Nacional de Timanfaya) is a Spanish national park in the southwestern part of the island of Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. It covers parts of the municipalities Tinajo and Yaiza. The area is 51.07 square kilometres (19.72 sq mi), [1] and the parkland is entirely made up of volcanic soil.

Timanfaya National Park is one of the top attractions in the Canary Islands thanks to its volcanic landscape of calderas and geothermal activity. Located in the southwestern part of Lanzarote, this protected area spans nearly 20 square miles and has 25 volcanoes, including the famous Montañas de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in Lanzarote.
Timanfaya is the only one of Spain's 15 national parks with a geological nature. Its rarity lies in the fact that the lava casts have created an ecosystem dominated by the most varied land formations you could imagine. Tiny craters, hollows and tubes burst everywhere, creating landscapes that seem to be part of another planet.

The biggest eruptions recorded in the region were the 6 years between 1730 and 1736 – during this period, over 100 volcanoes became active and devastated part of the island. It is one of the main parts of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve created by Unesco in 1993.
