Background. Toei Animation is a Japanese animation production and distribution company partially owned by Toei Company Ltd. It was established in 1956 at the former Tokyo-Ōizumi animation studio by purchasing the assets of Japan Animated Films. By the mid-60's, the company began producing anime for television.
