- North America. The Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico falls into a semi-arid classification south of the Tropic of Cancer. Animals found in the Chihuahuan Desert include the coyote, kangaroo rat, diamondback rattlesnake, big free-tailed bat, roadrunner and the Mexican red-kneed tarantula.
