Everything else, I "trust" the critics. I don't trust either. Combine tomatometer with IMDB score. Over 65% and >6.0 is probably worth watching.

For action films, I am a little bit more liberal, allowing a rating of above 5.5 on IMDb and above 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. For pure comedies, I ignore ratings altogether and choose based on the story line or the cast.
