Ulrika Eleonora or Ulrica Eleanor (23 January 1688 – 24 November 1741), known as Ulrika Eleonora the Younger, reigned as Queen of Sweden from 5 December 1718 until her abdication on 29 February 1720 in favour of her husband Frederick.
1688-01-23 — 1741-11-24. Queen of Sweden. Ulrika Eleonora the younger was a reigning queen of Sweden from 1718–1720. The Crown then transferred to her consort King Fredrik I. Her period of reign marked the beginning of what has come to be known as ‘frihetstiden’ (the Age of Liberty) within Swedish historiography.

In 1719 she became queen after agreeing to abolish the autocracy, and her coronation took place in Uppsala that same year. However, Ulrika had intended to co-rule with her husband, which the Riksdag did not agree to. At the 1720 Riksdag, Ulrika Eleonora relinquished the crown in favour of her consort Fredrik of Hesse.

Biography. Ulrika Eleonora was the daughter of Charles XI of Sweden. She ruled as queen regnant in 1718-1720, when she abdicated in favour of her husband, Frederick of Hesse-Cassel (q.v.), and remained as queen consort until her death in 1741.
