    Die University of Rhode Island, (URI), ist die führende öffentliche Universität im US-Bundesstaat Rhode Island. Der Hauptcampus befindet sich in Kingston, Rhode Island. Weitere Standorte befinden sich in Narragansett, Rhode Island (RI), Providence, RI und West Greenwich, RI. Die URI hat rund 14.000 Studenten. Die URI ist eine land-grant, sea-grant und urban-grant Institution.

    Das International Engineering Programm (IEP) ist federführend in der Konzeption von Hochschulpartnerschaften auf dem Gebiet der Ingenieurswissenschaften und Betriebswirtschaftslehre. Neben weiteren Programmen mit anderen europäischen Universitäten besteht die Möglichkeit eines Doppeldiploms mit der TU Braunschweig bei dem für die Braunschweiger Studenten die Möglichkeit des Erwerbes des Master of Business Administration bzw. des Master of Science besteht. Die URI Studenten studieren im Gegenzug einige Zeit in Deutschland. Ebenso besteht eine Hochschulpartnerschaft mit dem Studiendepartment Wirtschaft der HAW Hamburg.

    Das URI Sport Team sind die Rams. Ihre Farben sind Dunkelblau, Hellblau und Weiß. Ihre Teams treten u. a. in der NCAA Division I (Division 1-AA für American Football), der Atlantic 10 Conference und der Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association an. Das Sportzentrum der Universität finanziert 22 Hochschulteams und 17 Sportklubs. Dem Hochschulsport stehen zahlreiche Einrichtungen zur Verfügung, u. a. die 7700 Zuschauer fassende Basketballarena Ryan Center, das 8000 Sitze große Meade Stadium, die Keaney Sporthalle, das Mackal Leichtathletikzentrum, das Tootell Aquatic Center, die Boss Eishockey Arena, der URI Fußball Komplex, das Beck Field und das URI Softball Field. Weitere Einrichtungen stehen allen Studenten offen, zum Beispiel Fitnessstudios, eine Indoor Laufbahn, Schwimm- und Tauchbecken, 12 Tennisplätze, 2 Beach Volleyball Plätze.

    Die Komödie Outside Providence des Drehbuchautors und Produzenten Peter Farrelly (bekannte Produktionen: Dumm und Dümmer und Verrückt nach Mary) wurde teilweise auf dem Campus University of Rhode Island der gedreht. So wurden zum Beispiel alle Privatschulsequenzen in der Roosevelt Hall gedreht.
